My Arizona Adventure – Grand Canyon from the ground level
25 February 2015 by Malgosia Kobylinski
My first view of the Grand Canyon from a “secret spot” our tour guide shared with us.
Snow only made the sight more beautiful.!
The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,000 feet).
The Grand Canyon is known for its visually overwhelming size and its intricate and colorful landscape.
Geologically Grand Canyon is significant because of the thick sequence of ancient rocks that are beautifully preserved and exposed in the walls of the canyon. These rock layers record much of the early geologic history of the North American continent.
The canyon is the result of erosion which creates one of the most complete geologic columns on the planet.
The Grand Canyon is part of the Colorado River basin which has developed over the past 40 million years.
The great depth of the Grand Canyon and especially the height of its strata (most of which formed below sea level) can be attributed to 5–10 thousand feet (1,500 to 3,000 m) of uplift of the Colorado Plateau
The vegetation adopts to harsh and unique conditions of the rim.
